CUSTOM PLANTERS
Making custom planters is a great way to add a personal touch to your garden or home. There are many different materials and techniques we can use.
Planning and Choosing Plants:
Sun exposure: Consider the amount of sunlight each area of your garden receives. Succulents and many perennials prefer full sun (at least 6 hours a day), while some annuals may tolerate partial shade.
Water needs: Group plants together based on their water requirements. Succulents need very little water, while perennials and annuals will need regular watering, especially during hot weather.
Design and color scheme: Think about the overall look you want to achieve. Perennials provide long-lasting blooms and structure, while annuals add bursts of color throughout the season. Succulents offer interesting textures and shapes.
We can use your containers or we have some available to create a custom planter.
By using upcycled planters you can give new life to old objects by turning them into planters. The ideas are endless for what containers plants can go in.
Consider the size of the plant you will be planting when choosing the size of your planter.
Choose a material that is durable and weather-resistant if you will be using the planter outdoors.
Think about the style of your planter and how it will complement your decor. We can create a beautiful and thriving container garden with a combination of perennials, succulents, and annuals.
OVERWINTERING
Annuals grown in containers are discarded at the end of the season, but many potted perennials, shrubs and small trees can be maintained over the winter if steps are taken to protect the plants and their containers. That is where Peaceful Plant Farm can help with maintaining those beautiful plants year after year.
Just about all of the decorative annuals you buy in the spring from your local garden center are tender tropical plants. In warmer zones they can be perennials--or at least live for a couple of years--but in colder zones these are plants are usually allowed to die with the first frost.
One benefit of overwintering annuals is saving money. Annuals you successfully overwinter don’t have too be bought again the following spring. If you have an annual that you absolutely loved this season you should overwinter it. Cultivars fall in and out of favor and there’s no guarantee they will be available the next year.
Here are 12 annuals we have successfully overwintered in the past:
Lantana, Coleus, Fuchsias , New Guinea Impatiens, Wax Begonias , Boston and Kimberly Queen Ferns, Wire Vines , Oxalis , Lobelia , Tradescantia, Many Grasses, and Geraniums.
